If you haven't ridden your bike for a while, then definitely get it checked out by a bike shop's mechanic. Obviously being a machine, there are various bits and pieces on it that will wear and tear and need regular maintenance. And you don't want to find out what's worn and torn descending a hill at warp speed...!!
