Mechanical Problems

If your bike is maintained ok, you shouldn't have too many problems. But one of the main questions everyone asks themselves when starting out is:

What if I puncture?!!

  • So.....it pays to know a WEE bit of bike maintenance - especially how to change a flat tube/tyre. If you carry some tyre levers, a pump and a spare inner tube, it is only going to take a few minutes to sort out a puncture.
  • It's a good idea to learn? Through someone that knows, or through your local bike shop? How to repair a flattie?
  • It's really pretty simple once you're learnt it, and it'll save that dreaded feeling after you hear your tyre go down.
  • It'll also save you a mobile phone call?!?

So a few tips for beginner cyclists that can help you enjoy cycling even more...!!

  • Have your bike checked before you ride
  • Map out your training route before you go
  • Try and give yourself a nice way to finish the ride!
  • Check the weather forecast and plan accordingly
